Thank you for joining us today at Red Headed Book Lover!  Please tell us more about yourself?

I always chuckle when someone asks me that question, because I am so complex, as most women are!  LOL I am a wife to my college sweetheart, a mom to 3 sons, an international speaker, international best-selling author, executive leadership coach, attorney, champion for women’s leadership, mentor and coach and confidante to high achieving women.

I am also a trailblazer!  I serve as the first and only African American woman in my organization that serves at the senior management level.  I have been recognized for my contributions to add value to the lives of women and in the area of Diversity and Inclusion.

Could you please tell us readers about your book and what inspired you to write your book?

I have always loved to write.  I was an only child, so my books became my siblings.  I find writing to be very therapeutic, and I allow others to share in the therapy, if you will, by publishing my work.  I am an encourager by nature, so I find great pleasure in encouraging and empowering others.  My writing is one way that I accomplish this goal.

What would your advice be for aspiring writers?

My advice is to start writing and keep writing.  It is important for anyone wanting to write that your writing can go to places that you may never go.  I heard this statement years ago at a writing conference, and I was deeply impacted by this concept.  And, the concept rings true because my books have sold around the world.  They have been sold in South Africa, South America, Australia, China and a host of other places.  Although I have a desire to travel to these awesome places, I have not been there personally and physically, but readers in those countries have my books in hand.  I think this is pretty awesome!

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?

I think the most important thing about a book is the message it conveys and the purpose for which it was written.  The writer’s “why” must be evident in the pages of the book, leaving the reader feeling like the author’s purpose has been accomplished.

What is your writing process like?

I love to write, so I can sit down and write a book in one sitting.  When I get a concept for a book, I start writing and I start looking for evidence to bolster the points that I want to make.  I find the evidence in other books, newspaper articles, in the lives of others, in my own life and other examples that would drive my points home.

Do you have a set schedule for writing, or do you only write when you feel inspired?

I don’t have a writing schedule.  I don’t write when I feel inspired.  But, I write when I get an idea or a concept resonates with me.  For example, at the present I am working on a book about women sitting at the table in board meetings.  The idea comes from my own personal experiences and the experiences of other women that I know personally.

Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?

Yes, I love to read.  I don’t necessarily have any favorite authors.  Rather, I like certain genres of books.  I love inspirational, motivational, and bibliographies.  I do like Pastor Mark Batterson, Marshawn Evans Daniels, Priscilla Shirer, Kevin Hall, LaRae Quy and John Maxwell to name a few.

Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?

Readers can be on the lookout for several new books from me in 2019.  I am excited about what’s to come!
