RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Minds and Signs, Rebecca Rose Orton

Children & Picture Book, Crafts & Games, Guidebook and Textbook, NonFiction

Minds and Signs is a primer about cognitive linguistics designed for preteens who are curious about how the mind works and about American Sign Language.

A short while ago I read and reviewed two phenomenal books from author Rebecca Rose Orton; the two books were called What is a Tesseract? and The Lazy Dog and the Quick Fox. Both of these books courtesy of Orton was sensational and incredibly informative and helped my children learn many topics that I would not be able to teach them. The topics explored were of a unique nature because some of what is taught in the two books are not taught in some schools, and so that is why I fell in love with Orton’s literature because she has flawlessly managed to educate as well as entertain my children with unique but necessary topics. That is why when I discovered that Orton had a new book out I was thrilled and knew that I had to read and review it for you lovely readers! Orton’s new book is called Minds and Signs and is the perfect book for preteens and teenagers who are looking to learn about the cognitive part of the mind and linguistics. Already I have to recommend this book to those that are looking to learn about this topic but if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more about this gem!

Minds and Signs is a book about cognitive linguistics which combines the study of language and speech with the cognitive mind. I admit that although I have studied Psychology, I find the topic quite tricky because it is a complicated topic with many layers that can be confusing if not explained well. That is why I was intrigued to discover the book and intrigued to know whether Orton could easily explain and educate young readers about the topic. As I have now finished the book I can happily write that yes! Orton has managed to do this because from beginning to end Orton perfectly guides and educates young readers on the topics of how the mind works and the American language and sign language.

Rebecca Rose Orton is an incredible woman whose knowledgeable, informative writing makes for a stellar piece of educational nonfiction that will surely entertain as well as inform readers. As a woman who adores psychology I was keen to read this book for myself as well as so I can recommend it for young readers and what I found was that the book is a genuinely informative book that can educate many readers from varying levels of knowledge.

Rebecca Rose Orton is quite simply a gem, and her work is stellar. Orton is well equipped to inform us readers on all of the subjects explored in this book because she has a vast amount of knowledge and experience and that struck me right away. I hate when a book that falls into education genre that is written by somebody who claims to have a ton of knowledge and experience but does not. So the fact that Minds and Signs is written by a person who does and writes in a fantastic and informative way makes me love the book even more and makes me want to recommend it even more!

Overall Minds and Signs is a fantastic book that should be owned by everybody, even those that are not young readers! And this is because the book can educate readers of all ages thanks to the easy to read knowledge that is educational as well as entertaining. Minds and Signs, of course, has to get five stars from me! So please, have a read of the preview below and be sure to have a look at Orton’s other two books because they are equally brilliant!
