Maldene: Volume One, Mark Anthony Tierno

Children & Picture Book, Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Magic & Sword and Sorcery, Science Fiction & Space Opera, Teen & Young Adult

Maldene is a world of magic and science, wizards and dragons; but home also to an incredible secret. One jealously guarded by History’s most villainous being: Miro. For centuries his presence has been plaguing the nightmares of gods and men; the world is in his thrall, there is no one willing to face him.

Or perhaps there is. The young wizard Sabu, and his elven friend Eldar, lead their companions on a journey to seek a destiny foretold them by a blind gold-skinned gypsy. Fighting a three-hundred foot dragon will be but the beginning of this quest, as they journey the globe in search of answers to the mystery of Miro’s villainy, and uncover the world’s long-buried secrets. For they are destined to lead a new battle against this most ancient of evils, to gather all beneath the banner of a mysterious King and face the unfaceable.

There is just one problem: Miro is counting on their success.

Maldene: Volume One is volume one in the Maldene series written by the exceptional and talented author Mark Anthony Tierno and wow what a stellar start to a series! Maldene is a book I was keen to read ever since discovering it because I always love to find inspiring adventure/fantasy stories to read so when I discovered Maldene I thought ‘is this finally the perfect book?!’. Now that I have finished Maldene I can happily write that yes it is book lovers. Maldene is one of the most well written and well-developed stories I have ever come across, and I truly mean this as Maldene is exceptional and should not be missed!

Maldene is a sensational novel that will introduce the reader to a ‘world of magic and science, wizards and dragons’ and wow, what a world it is book lovers! Maldene is the world featured in the novel, and the reader will learn its history and its troubling secrets at the heart of the book. The reader will be introduced to the young protagonist of the novel, Sabu, a young wizard, who along with his ‘elven friend Eldar,’ embark on a mission to seek a destiny that has been told to them. Along the way, they will encounter evil and will also get to the root of Miro’s villainy. Who is Miro? Miro is the most evil being, and his presence has plagued the realm of Maldene for centuries. Will Sabu and Eldar be able to stop this and uncover secrets at the same time? Read the thrilling Maldene to find out!

The story of Maldene is a thrilling one thanks to the enthralling and action-packed moments as well as the unpredictable nature of the book that will have the readers turning the pages with haste from beginning to end. I love books that involve a journey because usually in these stories the character develops and grows as they overcome events and battles which in turn adds to the development of the character and explores life lessons throughout the book and that is most certainly the case with Maldene. What I loved most about Maldene is that the reader is taken on an adventure that is continuously evolving and changing.

Mark Anthony Tierno is an incredibly talented author who clearly knows how to write unique but engaging stories. It was evident to me from the start that Tierno is a passionate writer who surely loves entertaining readers with his literature and putting a smile on readers’ faces. I loved this about the author but what I loved the most about Tiero’s writing is his remarkable descriptions because they genuinely amazed me. Fantasy novels, in general, are difficult to write because you have to transport the reader quickly and effortlessly, but sadly this is rarely accomplished in a fantasy story but not with Maldene. Maldene is the way it is because Tierno knows what he is doing! Tierno knows how to whisk his readers away to a fantasy land and entice them with magnificent descriptions and keep readers entertained from start to finish!

Overall Maldene is a marvelous, stellar and supreme fantasy book that will entertain, delight as well as charm young readers and even adults! And so I, of course, have to award this book five stars! Be sure to have a read of the preview below book lovers and keep an eye out for my spotlight for the author which will be live soon!

It might interest some people to know that, the first full novel (Volume One + Volume Two) in the series equates to about the first chapter in a reeeallly long book. I’m just getting started, folks. 🙂
