Lucknow, Annie Hall

Contemporary Fiction, Family Saga, Literature & Fiction, Women's Fiction

When Rosie’s marriage suddenly ends one night in Sydney, her world collapses. She doesn’t know what to do next. Her sister suggests she move to Lucknow, a town in Central Victoria. It doesn’t seem to offer much at first. But her life changes in ways she had not thought possible. Lucknow isn’t just a romance, it’s about life in a small country Australian town.

Lucknow is a sensational novel written by the equally superb Annie Hall and is a book that is the definition of a perfect contemporary fiction read. I admit that I was hooked on this book before I even started to read it; the description of the book managed to intrigue me straight away and ever since reading it I knew I had to get lost in the story of Lucknow. Lucknow is an incredible novel that charmed, shocked and thrilled me with its multiple themes and plot avenues and already I would implore you lovely readers to have a read of this book! It has to be one of the best contemporary fiction/romance novels of the year so do not miss out on the magnificent book!

Lucknow follows the protagonist of the novel Rosie. Rosie is a woman who had the ‘perfect’ life, she had a husband and a beautiful son, however one day, very abruptly her husband decides to shatter her life by walking out on her and her son. Rosie will soon find herself in a desperate situation, all alone and homeless with not a penny to her name. However, Rosie decides that she must get help and help comes in the form of her sister in stunning central Victoria in a small town in which everybody is nosey and knows each others business. Rosie while there will try to adapt to her new life which is far from the bustling city of Sydney and without her husband. While in Lucknow, Rosie meets somebody, but her heart is not in it. Rosie is mostly with him for comfort and security but when Rosie meets somebody she actually likes, things will become complicated, and this book lovers is the premise of the sensational novel.

The story of Lucknow is a profoundly moving one with many profound themes laced throughout the book. I admit that I was guilty of assuming from the description that Lucknow would be a cliché romance but when I started to read it I knew full well that this book was not that kind of read. Instead, Lucknow is a poignant novel full of powerful themes which are all excellently explored and weaved well together by the phenomenal author Annie Hall.

Annie Hall is an incredible author who has managed to transfix and entertain me with her beautiful literature. I am impressed by the amount of depth Hall has managed to lace throughout her book. Hall ensures throughout her book that her readers are entertained and thrilled from beginning to end, and Hall does this by weaving twists and turns throughout her book which yes, are incredibly entertaining! As well as this Hall flawlessly weaves brilliant characterization and development of her characters that will keep the readers turning the pages from beginning to end.

Hall is an exceptional author for many reasons, but one of the primary attributes I love about her writing is the characterization of the characters the reader comes across in the book; specifically Rosie. Rosie is a woman who thinks that her life is set but when it is ripped away from her it is heartbreaking. Readers will definitely be able to have compassion for Rosie and root for her from beginning to end. I immediately loved Rosie because she is a relatable and believable character and this is thanks to her incredible characterization courtesy of Annie Hall.

Overall Lucknow is an extraordinary piece of contemporary fiction that will entertain and thrill readers from beginning to end so I, of course, have to award the book five stars! It would be criminal not to. So please book lovers, have a read of the excellent book and get lost in an engrossing, captivating story… you will not regret it!
