Live Free or Die, Dave Ives

Action & Adventure, Espionage & Conspiracy, Literature & Fiction, Military Fiction, Politics

“As a minor, I cannot sentence you to the death penalty although that’s what I think you deserve …”

Fifteen year old Sam Higgins took the law into his own hands and lost. He lost his dreams. He lost his freedom. And, he lost his hero, the man he admired more than anyone else.

A small New Hampshire town is turned upside down when one man has the courage to ask, ‘How can I comply with your law and still be a free person?’ The state motto, “Live Free or Die” is his battle cry. The town leaders devise a plan to crush this threat before other citizens join in. But, their plan backfires and the FBI is called in to put down the “uprising.”

Sam’s version of what happened has never been told, until now. A little over one year into his life sentence he was killed. Although Sam died, his story survives. He wrote it while in prison. It was found among his belongings.

The FBI told a story of heroic agents thwarting a citizen’s revolt. Sam tells a completely different story, a story of government corruption, collusion and cronyism; a story of FBI deceit, deception and destruction.

Now you be the judge. You decide. Who’s telling the truth, the FBI or Sam Higgins?

Live Free or Die is one of the most thought-provoking, compelling and thrilling novels I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Live Free or Die is a novel I believe that all readers, from all genres, will love thanks to the incredible and poignant themes laced throughout the book as well as the sensational literature courtesy of the author Dave Ives. The story is one of a shocking nature but it is also thought-provoking; it will challenge your thoughts and compel you to think about the justice system as well as the Government,; overall it is a phenomenal book and so I would implore all of you lovely readers to read it!

Live Free or Die is a poignant tale that follows the life of fifteen-year-old Sam Higgins; a young man who lost everything after taking the law into his own hands. The novel is set in a quaint town in New Hampshire and Sam rises up and the motto ‘Live Free or Die’ is prominent in the small town in New Hampshire, so prominent that an uprising occurs and subsequently the FBI is called in to quash the ‘uprising.’ Sam was soon caught and thrown in jail but sadly only a year into his life sentence he was killed, however, while in prison Sam wrote about his version of events and what truly happened. His story is found in his cell after his death, and they are passed to his mother. The mother will read about what happened to her son Sam and why it happened as well as read about the corruption that is amongst the Government. The premise of the novel is just this and believe me when I write that it will compel you for many hours.

The story of Live Free or Die is incredibly profound as well as thrilling. The story reads as if it is true crime however it is a fictional tale but it would not surprise me if I found out that similar events have happened because let’s face it, they probably have. The story is thrilling because as Sam’s versions of events unravel, the reader is shocked thanks to the twisty-turny nature of his story which shows the shocking truths that will leave you questioning everything you thought you had known. The story may be thrilling but it is also profound and upsetting because a young man has been killed and this is terribly sad. I believe that parents will feel this deeply because the story is passed along to the mother and as the mother reads it, you can understand that her heart must have been breaking, so I admire the author, Dave Ives for writing a thrilling piece of fiction as well as a poignant one.

Dave Ives is a phenomenal author who knows how to write a political thriller as he has mastered this genre with Live Free or Die. Never before have I raced through a book so quickly and this is thanks to the phenomenal literature courtesy of Ives and how well developed his story is. Live Free or Die is a small book as it is only around 130 pages but do not let this put you off because the story is well developed, rich in detail and incredibly compelling. The novel reads at the perfect pace thanks to the steady build-up and evolution of the story, the reader will feel an urge to keep reading, even when they are tired because the plot is so engrossing thanks to Ives use of magnificent plot devices.

As Live Free or Die is a brilliant, thought-provoking and remarkable story that will excite, thrill, challenge and captivate you I, of course, have to award Live Free or Die five stars! Live Free or Die truly is a phenomenal book that brings fresh meaning to the term Live Free or Die and the result is a captivating story that you won’t be able to put down!

What an inspiring review. Makes all the hard work … first draft through tenth draft, editing and editing, getting feedback, re-writing, adding chapters, taking out parts, re-editing, book cover design, marketing … worth it. I got the idea to write the book from a guy digging stumps out of my front yard. He told me, ‘I ain’t paying my property tax, I don’t get anything in return, so I ain’t payin.’ It got me thinking … ‘hmm, wonder what would happen if someone refused to pay property tax? How would it play out? ‘ Then I sat down at the… Read more »
