Tell our listeners a little bit about yourself, your work and what inspired you to write your book?
Hi, my name is Lilly Cadoch, I’m an author, a certified health coach, a blogger, a mother of two boys and work full time. My passion has always centered upon food and healthy eating and once I had my kids and lived the struggle of how busy it is for working women and all busy caregivers to work, attend to all kids needs and at the same time make sure kids are eating healthy and having a healthy mindset, I realized how important it was for me to write “Busy Mom’s Cheat Sheet” to spread the message of tips and tools I’ve learned to raise happy healthy kids. Who couldn’t use a cheat sheet?
If you told me even five years ago that I would have a published book, I would never have believed you. I never considered myself a writer or an author. I didn’t know the first thing that went into writing a book. Because of the amazing results these tools had in my family and the people I helped, people kept telling me that I should write a book so that I can spread the message to a wider audience. And that’s where it all started and where “Busy Mom’s Cheat Sheet” was born.
Why do you think this issue/topic is important?
Unfortunately this is the first generation that our kid’s generation is expected to have a shorter lifespan than their parents, even by 5 years. In our modern society, this statistic is unacceptable. And if I can do anything to prevent that with my kids which can trickle down to my grandkids one day, and share that knowledge with all busy caregivers to teach their own kids, nothing would make me happier to know I had an impact on that that can then positively affect future generations
What would your advice be for aspiring writers?
If you have a passion and a message to share, don’t let the fear of not having enough time stop you from writing a book. I’m not saying it won’t be a challenge. The biggest challenge I found was making the time to write the book. I was working full time, raising 2 kids and commuting 10+ hours a week. Some tips on ways to write a book despite how busy you are:
- Block time out on calendar to write. Keep that appointment like you would an appointment with your boss. After I put kids to bed, I’d write, even if it was just for a half hour. Sometimes, I’d be on such a roll next thing I know, it would be 2am and I’d have to force myself to go to sleep knowing I’d have to wake up 4 hours later. Those days that followed were tough, not going to lie.
- Find the time, you have more spare time than you think. I didn’t watch TV for year it took me to write the book. I worked on my train commute.
- Find an accountability partner; someone that will hold you to your writing deadlines and check up on you.
- Take a book writing course. When you have the momentum of a class of students who all want to achieve the same goal, it keeps you moving forward.
In your opinion, what is the most important thing about your book?
Taking busy mom and caregivers time constraints in mind, I wrote this book to be a quick read, easy-to-understand and includes a lot of actionable tips parents can implement into their families routine immediately to improve health and happiness. It also includes 45 quick, easy and delicious recipes that both my picky bellies at home approved, so I’m sure your kids will love it too! My book is unique in that it teaches tools to have both a healthy body and equally important a healthy mind since I firmly believe that Body, Mind & Spirit make up our entire being and if any of them get out of balance, it can throw everything out of whack. Body first as the foundation that needs to be solid in order to have proper capacity to handle the mind & spirit. Food not only feeds our cells, but also our minds, thoughts and soul so it makes sense that’s where we need to start and where I focused first with my children teaching them how to read food labels, make sure they are getting enough sleep and exercise.
