On Friday the thirteenth of October, a five-year-old girl named James meets a monster at the Shreveport Holiday Inn. Now, there are those in southern Louisiana who believe in the legend of the rougarou—a werewolf that prowls the bayou. Others think the monster is nothing more than a Cajun tall tale. The Gauthier family, though, knows true evil exists.
Matthew Gauthier, his wife, and their four kids are a family built on love and pride, but their shared happiness is shattered that terrible Friday in October after attending the Louisiana State Fair. They move on in the aftermath, even James, who grows into a great beauty is always fearful of what hides in the night.
It is James’s loveliness that initially attracts rural Texas boy Charles “Cat” Thomas when they meet years later. It is her fragile nature—reminding him of his own tragic family history—that makes Cat want to protect this shy, secretive, young woman. Loving James comes at a terrible price, though, because the rougarou is still out there watching.
Killing the Rougarou is a sensational novel written by the equally superb Shawn M. Beasley and is a book that is the definition of a perfect romantic suspense read. I admit that I was hooked on this book before I even started to read it; the description of the book managed to intrigue me straight away and ever since reading it I knew I had to get lost in the story of Killing the Rougarou. Killing the Rougarou is a fantastic book that is full of enthralling literature, splendid characters and a well-developed plot that usually only occurs with authors who have written multiple books for decades! Killing the Rougarou is incredible and if you are a reader who is looking to get lost in a captivating story that will compel as well as entertain you from beginning to end then Killing the Rougarou is for you.
Killing the Rougarou is a unique novel that combines themes that are not commonly combined, however, the excellent author pulls it off by weaving them expertly together. The reader will be introduced to the Gauthier family however the focus will be on the protagonist of the novel, James. When the reader first meets James, she is only five years old. James lives in Southern Louisiana, and it is here that there is the legend of the rougarou, a werewolf whose name has been on the lips of the residents for many years. Some believe the werewolf exists whereas others don’t… the Gauthier family, however, know that it does exist.
The reader will be immersed in this plot avenue; however, the reader will also be introduced to James as she is older. James, when older has met somebody called Charles “Cat” Thomas, and the two of them grow closer together. What follows is a shocking and thrilling story that should not be missed!
The story of Killing the Rougarou is an incredibly entertaining one laced with many profound themes throughout the book. I admit that I was guilty of assuming from the description that Killing the Rougarou could be a cliché romance story but when I started to read it I knew full well that this book was not that kind of read. Instead, Killing the Rougarou is a phenomenal novel full of powerful themes which are all excellently explored and weaved well together by the remarkable author Shawn M. Beasley.
Shawn M. Beasley is an incredible author who has managed to transfix and entertain me with her beautiful literature. I am impressed by the amount of depth Beasley has managed to lace throughout her book; Beasley ensures throughout her book that her readers are entertained and thrilled from beginning to end, and Beasley does this by weaving twists and turns throughout her book which yes, are incredibly entertaining! As well as this Beasley flawlessly weaves brilliant characterization and development of her characters that will keep the readers turning the pages from beginning to end.
Shawn M. Beasley is an exceptional author for many reasons, but one of the primary attributes I love about her writing is the characterization of the characters the reader comes across in the book; specifically James, readers will definitely be able to root for James from beginning to end. I immediately loved James because she is a relatable and believable character and this is thanks to her incredible characterization courtesy of Beasley.
Overall Killing the Rougarou is an extraordinary piece of fiction that will entertain and thrill readers from beginning to end so I, of course, have to award the book five stars!
