Jessica James rides again in the latest page-turner from award-winning author Kelly Oliver.

With only an old photograph to go on, amateur sleuth Jessica James is sent on a mission by her dying mother to find a washed-up magician called the Mesmerizer. Along the way, Jessica gets way more than she bargained for when she stumbles into a black market organ ring and learns secrets about her mother that will change her own life forever.

With wit and grit, Jessica and her posse take on the seamy underbelly of Vegas. Dauntless, determined, and awkwardly endearing, Jessica James continues to delight readers.

Jackal is a phenomenal novel courtesy of the author Kelly Oliver and Jackal for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. Jackal was captivating to me from the start thanks to the premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author who from the start hooked me with her fantastic story filled with mystery and suspense that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a mystery novel which combines the themes this book does, and that is refreshing to me. It is even more challenging to discover a mystery story that does not rely on cheap thrills too! Jackal does have thrilling moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!

Jackal is book four in the Jessica James series written by Kelly Oliver and will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the novel, Jessica James. Jessica in Jackal will be taken on a crazy but also a poignant adventure that begins when she discovers an ‘unconscious man in a bathtub.’ The reader will follow her as events begin to unravel and Jessica’s adventure really starts when her sick mother tasks her with finding a magician called The Mesmerizer. What follows is a thrilling, adventure-packed story in which Jessica will be taken into the seedy criminal underworld all while she discovers shocking secrets about herself and her mother and this book lovers is the premise of Jackal.

The premise of Jackal is exceptional, original and unlike anything I have read before. I loved the many themes and elements explored throughout the book, and all themes are explored by Oliver wonderfully, and she does this by lacing these exciting themes throughout the text flawlessly and weaving them with the story. The result of this makes Jackal a highly addictive and fascinating read that is never once lackluster or predictable. Oliver really has accomplished the near impossible, Oliver has managed to write an entertaining, bewitching and flawless story that will perfectly unfold in readers minds like a movie and now that I think about it, why is this book not a movie already!

Kelly Oliver is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp her reader’s attention from the first page. Oliver instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust her reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly, but with Jackal, the reader, will not encounter this issue because Oliver instantly develops her characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

Kelly Oliver is not only a brilliant writer for her ability to captivate the reader’s attention straight away, but she is also an excellent author for her ability to lace exceptional twists and turns throughout her story that genuinely had me shocked at points! The combination of Oliver’s shocking twists and her explanatory powers will immerse the reader in the story and make them be able to visualize every detail, no matter how small. This writing approach is one of my favorites because it makes the reader feel included in the story and make the reader feel as if they are in the same situation as the protagonists of the novel.

Overall Jackal is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars!
