When your home is in a place so volatile that the devil himself would give it a wide berth, the only direction you’re trying to move … is out.

Seraphina Glen had come up from an average street hustler to a married woman with a prestigious address and two teenage twin stepchildren. She walked away from her old life burning bridges and stomping on the ashes. However, Seraphina’s escape was temporary.

Now she finds herself back in her old apartment dragging her husband’s failure in a bag with her broken dreams. The twins are struggling with the significant life downgrade. Her husband’s depression smothers any lingering happy thoughts that managed to grow like weeds through concrete.

As Seraphina reacquaints herself with the rules of survival, she takes steps that shake the foundation of the ideal family she tried to construct.

When Seraphina’s circle becomes a target, what punishment is she willing to dole out and what will she be forced to endure when she finds herself caught up in the midst of fire?

In the Midst of Fire is a novel that shows readers that life is tough and can change at any moment. The reader will be introduced to the protagonist of the story Seraphina Glen, a woman who was defined as a ‘street hustler’ but who has now moved on from her past and is living happily with her husband and two stepchildren. Without spoiling the plot, the reader will follow Seraphina as her whole life crumbles around her, Seraphine will soon find herself in a cramped apartment with her husband’s failures and her ‘broken dreams.’ Seraphina is a woman who had nothing, had it all and then had it taken away from her again, what does that do to a person? The author Sierra Kay explores this throughout the book through the vessel of the story – Seraphina – and the result is a gripping, unpredictable affair that is guaranteed to keep readers entertained for hours on end.

The story of In the Midst of Fire is a dramatic one that explores the divide between the rich and the poor. The reader is given insight into the troubling gap and how it affects you and your life, not only is the book informative and explores worrisome themes, but it is also wildly entertaining that is full of glorious moments and horrific ones. As I read In the Midst of Fire I struggled to put it down, this was because the author Sierra Kay has a phenomenal range of writing talents that all have the ability to keep readers bewitched.
