RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Hockey Agony, Donna M. McDine

Children & Picture Book, Literature & Fiction

Peer Pressure and Honesty many times go hand-in-hand. What is Larry to do when his teammate asks him to cheat when he is given the responsibility to run the clock during the big hockey game? Outwardly, it may seem he will follow suit, but his conscience tells him otherwise at the moment of truth.

Hockey Agony is a read that will keep children engrossed, enthralled and enchanted until the very last page. Hockey Agony is a book that was so phenomenal and addictive that my children found it unputdownable. As I read this with my eldest children, they were impatient as they moved to the next page thanks to the stories engrossing literature, riveting plot and let’s not forget astonishing and memorable characters. These reasons listed above and so many more I am yet to list, is why I recommend that all of you lovely book readers read Hockey Agony. I promise you now that your children will not be disappointed if they choose to read this book; never before have I read anything quite so brilliant so please, I urge all of you and your children to read and immerse yourself in this wonderful book! If you need more convincing, then read the rest of my review to hear more about this dazzling piece of literature!

Hockey Agony is an exceptional children’s book that explores peer pressure as well as honesty. The reader will be introduced to the protagonist of the book, Larry. Larry was a great Hockey player however when he breaks his leg he is forced to stay on the sidelines during the games. However, his coach, as well as his teammates, pressure him into doing something he never normally would. Will Larry do what he is being asked to do or will he not and tell the truth? Read the captivating Hockey Agony to find out!

The synopsis Hockey Agony is gripping, glorious, and let’s not forget poignant. The novel has a plot that has surprised me more than once thanks to its captivating and absorbing nature. One thing is for sure when you read Hockey Agony, and that is you will never be bored reading because it is a diverse all-consuming assault of brilliance that will keep you motivated to read until the very end. It is like the author has a binding spell on young readers and the only way to break this spell is to immerse yourself in the layers of the book fully.

The story of Hockey Agony is an incredibly dynamic, unique piece of work that will entertain children from start to finish. The pacing of this story was wonderfully written and plotted so that my children (or even me!) did not get bored at any given time. I always measure my likeness of a book on whether I find myself looking at the page number; if I do in fact do this I know that the novel is taking its toll… in other words it is dragging, and I want it to end but Hockey Agony was different than this and not like this at all as never once did I find myself referring to the page number as I read the book with my children and that is a sure sign that Hockey Agony is a compelling piece of work that draws the reader in and captivates them to read.

The author of the novel Donna M. McDine can only be described as a literary artisan. The objective of any great writer is that of any kind of artist; it is to communicate a message and to delight the recipient whether that be the listener, the viewer or the reader… in this case the reader. McDine has wonderfully entertained her readers and has communicated the novel’s message to me as well as my children, soundly and perfectly and that is why all children should have a read of Hockey Agony.

To summarize my thoughts on the poignant book that is Hockey Agony I would say if you are a reader who is tired of your children reading the same old books that are lackluster and forgettable then take a chance with Hockey Agony because I promise you now that they will not be disappointed. My rating for this beautiful book, of course, has to be five stars!
