Hayley Bi believes that sharing life experiences and what is beyond our consciousness can be powerful and healing not just for her, but also for others who may have a desire to do the same.
In a collection of true stories, Bi begins by sharing several supernatural childhood experiences that included learning her sister was possessed and given away, using a Ouija board to communicate with the dead, camping in a haunted area in Hong Kong, and gradually realizing she had been gifted with a sixth sense. As she reveals how her gift allowed her to know about an upcoming fire in her apartment building, hear the voice of her car accident, and encounter unbelievable sights such as an orange being, Bi also shares how she found gratitude for the important messages communicated to her through dreams.
My Supernatural Encounter with the Orange Being shares several stories that provide a glimpse into the paranormal world and reveal how one woman realized there is much more to be discovered.

Could you please tell us readers about your book and what inspired you to write your book?
My Supernatural Encounter with the Orange Being is my first book – a memoir with a supernatural theme. If you like true stories – about life after death, spirits and ghosts, paranormal sights, prophetic dreams, possession, haunting, sixth-sense and spirituality – you will love this book.
In this supernaturally charged memoir, I chronicle my experiences from childhood onward, with many hard-to-believe stories such as learning my sister was possessed and given away, using a Ouija board to communicate with the dead, camping in a haunted area in Hong Kong, and gradually realizing I had been gifted with a sixth sense. My gift allowed me to know about an upcoming fire in my apartment building, hear the voice of my car accident, and encounter unbelievable sights such as an orange being, I also share how I found gratitude for the important messages communicated to me through dreams.
The reasons I wrote this book were shared in chapter one. I wasn’t inspired by anyone or anything in particular, it felt more like an array of unmistaken divine signals shooting toward my direction, and my radar was able to detect them. After I picked up all the three signs – the sense of urgency, the voice telling me to write, and the hint from the sticking-out notepad that reminded me of an online ebook course I once took, a flush of ideas cascaded down to me one night. I quickly wrote down all the chapter titles on my phone and that was how my book was conceived.
What would your advice be for aspiring writers?
One of the common regrets of the dying is not having the courage to live a life true to themselves. Close your eyes and think about it for a few seconds. Then ask yourself “Is that strong enough to melt your fear or worries?” I always remind myself “I don’t need to be perfect, I just need to be brave.” Praise yourself for being able to get something started – even a few sentences – for this is the first sign of being brave!
In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?
For me, it’s always the story. A beautifully written story with a lot of substance is the key to grab my attention. If I can submerge into the storyline, able to sense, feel, smell, taste, see and wonder along with the words, that will be an enjoyable book.
What is your writing process like?
I wrote almost my whole book on my cell phone. Being able to write spontaneously is important to me. I’d written in my bed, in a lineup, sitting on a chair close to the beach while vacationing. I don’t have any particular writing rituals, I just write when ideas hit.
Do you have a set schedule for writing, or do you only write when you feel inspired?
After surrounding myself with more writer friends online and read up on their news about how they work, I realized that many of them write on a regular basis, very often, daily. I almost have to feel ashamed because I don’t write a lot. Writing is supposed to be a fun way of expressing myself. Personally, I don’t like to be confined by a set schedule. Whenever I feel like it, I write.
Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
Well, I try to read as much as I can. No matter how I try to use my time wisely, it’s still always a scarcity. A few months ago, I was enticed by the twenty-dollar-off discount ad in my email, surprisingly, that alone was enough for me to finalize my purchase of an e-reader. I must confess that it’s a god-sent gadget I previously had underestimated its usefulness. Now I like to carry it around in my purse. Whenever I am in a lineup or waiting for somebody, I will pull it out and clock in more reading time.
I read 90% non-fiction with a focus in the realm of supernatural. My favourite author is Lorna Byrne. She is able to see angels daily and it’s her who introduces me to the inner workings of the angelic world.
When I look at a book, I am usually more attracted to the stories and the way the author is trying to tell them than who is writing them. So I am quite open to read a variety of books from different authors.
Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?
I am contemplating on writing a second book which is like a continuum of my first book. More exciting supernatural stories of my own, and of course, with illustrations, will be shared with you in the future. But readers, please be patient, I haven’t started writing yet.
