RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Gold Dust, Catherine Weaver

Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Magic & Sword and Sorcery, Middle Grade Fiction, Teen & Young Adult

Alex Lee is a Freshman at Palo Alto High in the Silicon Valley. With no friends and the most ordinary name ever, not to mention a mother who has somehow turned into a mindless zombie, Alex doesn’t know how things could get worse. But when she comes face to face with a leprechaun on her way home from school, she finds out. Armed only with a clarinet and advice from her Buddha-quoting grandmother, Alex is forced into an adventure that will lead her from a high-tech security breach, through an army of griffins to a point where she could save her mom- if she isn’t torn apart by overwhelming magical forces first.
Marked by humor and insight, this fresh take on the classic Spanish romance of the magical Island of California will keep readers turning pages as they try to find the answer to the question, “What will Alex do next?”

Gold Dust is one of the most heart-warming, action-adventure fantasy novels I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Never before have I described an adventure novel as heart-warming but Gold Dust indeed is and is full of so much heart, soul and passion thanks to the young protagonist’s journey as well as the excellent author’s passion for her literature which is clearly evident throughout the book. The story of Gold Dust is quite simply gold and will shine, and dazzle as you read it as it is a pure joy to read. I am describing the book currently as a dazzling book but be aware book lovers that this book is full of action and heart-pounding moments also so if you read this excellent be prepared for a healthful dose of both of these features as Gold Dust combines the two perfectly!

Gold Dust is an adventure packed story that follows the young protagonist of the story called Alex Lee who is a Freshman at the ‘Palo Alto High in the Silicon Valley.’ Alex is your ordinary girl, she is an introvert and does not have any friends, and her home life is not much better as her mother acts like a ‘mindless zombie’ thanks to the ridiculous hours she works. One day, however, Alex’s life will change forever when she meets a Leprechaun on her way home from school. Just like Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Alex will go on a fantastical adventure that is full of Griffins and magical forces and this book lovers is the premise of the sensational Gold Dust.

The story of Gold Dust is one that charmed me from the very start, and this is because the protagonist of the story Alex is so likable. I always love connecting with the lead of the story straight away because it makes the read more blissful and easy to read. Straight away readers will find themselves liking Alex, and this is because she is ordinary and feels extremely real. Everybody has been young once, and everybody knows how difficult it be and how at times you can be incredibly shy and alone, and Catherine Weaver, the author of Gold Dust perfectly explores these feelings through the vessel of the story Alex.

Catherine Weaver is a phenomenal writer who knows how to write an entertaining story. Weaver’s words are instantly charming and endearing and will compel you to turn the pages at an alarming rate thanks to the phenomenal characterization of Alex and the fast-paced story which is impeccably developed. I adore how straight away the reader is thrust into the journey of the book; there is little build up and I adore this quality in any book because the reader wants to be taken on a thrilling journey fast. Weaver most certainly ensures that her readers read without hesitation from the start to the end and that they are taken on the journey quickly and this made for exhilarating reading.

Aa Gold Dust is an inspiring, thrilling and action-packed novel that will charm its readers with its profound messages as well as delight readers with the enjoyable story I, of course, have to award this stellar read five stars! So please, read this incredible book and get lost in a fantastical story, you will not regret it!

Thank you for your kind review, and I’m glad you enjoyed reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it. The magical Island of California grows on me, and I am excited to find people who also want to immerse themselves into this world and find a little bit of magic they can carry back with them into their own lives.
