Going Off The Grid: The How-To Book of Simple Living and Happiness is an exceptional book as well as an Amazon bestseller that captivated and informed me from beginning to end. As somebody who has always been fascinated by the nomadic lifestyle and those that choose to live off the grid, I was desperate to read a book that explains the lifestyle as well as provide practical and useful advice as I am intrigued by the prospects of living off the grid myself one day. That is why when I discovered Going Off The Grid I knew that I had to read it but also share it with you lovely readers as it is a topic that is growing in popularity thanks to the stresses of the modern world, so I hope that you enjoy reading about living off the grid today book lovers!

Going Off The Grid is an incredibly informative book about a fascinating topic that is growing in popularity as well as notability. I confess that Going Off The Grid has to be one of the best books in the genre today thanks to its useful and practical knowledge as well as how entertaining of a read it is. You may be thinking “how can a book about living off the grid” be entertaining but trust me when I write that it is book lovers. Firstly the incredible author Gary Collins writes beautifully so that you are entertained from start to finish, but as well as this he shares his own experiences (sometimes in a humorous way) and shares stories about his journey to living off the grid and these sections of the book were incredibly entertaining and kept me turning the pages with haste.

Before I continue sharing my thoughts on Going Off The Grid, I first want to inform you about what Going Off The Grid is about and what you can expect to find when reading the book. Going Off The Grid is an incredible book with twelve well-organized chapters which will perfectly inform you of living off the grid as well as so much more. The aim of Going Off The Grid is to inform you of the basics of how to live off the grid, and it does this by informing you of home construction, energy alternatives, and their pros and cons and much more. All the while the reader learns about living off the grid, Gary Collins will share his own experiences and his own advice so that readers can learn from an expert and to not make the sometimes costly mistakes that Collins once did. What I loved about this book is that the book feels as if Collins is personally guiding you through the journey. Most self-help/reference books are impersonal but Going Off The Grid is written in a way in which you feel as if the author is directly speaking to you and sharing his advice one on one and that is one of the many qualities I loved about Going Off The Grid and why I think it is one of the best books in the genre.

Throughout Going Off The Grid, Collins shares a lot of information with his readers however never too much information that is confusing and difficult to navigate/read. Instead, Collins shares his information in well organized, short chapters in which he provides all the information you need but in a concise and easy to read way. I personally loved this approach in his writing, I dislike when a self-help/reference book is full of too much information because it makes the book a struggle to read and in turn makes you not want to read the book which defeats the whole point of the book trying to help you. That is why I adore the easy to read style of the book and what makes it even easier is that at the end of each chapter is a chapter summary. This is a genius idea I believe because it makes the book an even better resource for readers who are starting the process to live off the grid. This is because the reader can quickly flip back through the book and instead of rereading the whole chapter they can read the chapter summary instead which will remind them of what they had read once before – genius!

In Going Off The Grid Gary Collins is brutally honest, and there is actually one section in his chapter on contractors that reads ‘My Experiences and Brutal Honesty’ and this sums up the book for me. In Going Off The Grid Collins never once sugar coats the nomadic lifestyle and living off the grid; instead, he is brutally honest and shares all the cons to it as well as the pros so that readers can know what to expect from the journey they may take so they are not disappointed and prepared.

You may be thinking that Going Off The Grid is only going to be a useful book for those that want to live entirely off the grid; however, this is not the case. Instead, Going Off The Grid can be read and loved by many, even those that do not want to live off the grid as Gary Collins provides expert and sound advice on many topics that will relate to many readers. For example, there is a section on, and this is an incredibly useful chapter for those that are either developing their own home or work as a home developer as he provides comprehensive advice on what to do and what not to do. As well as this there is a chapter on alternative sources of power and this would be an excellent chapter for those that are looking for a cleaner source of energy and once again Collins makes sure to share the pros and cons of cleaner energy so that you can make the best decision on what is right for you.

Above all, however, the book is great for all readers as the premise of the book is to help you reevaluate your life and current living situations, make you realize whether you need change and ultimately help you on a path to happier living which is pretty amazing in my opinion.

One of the best selling qualities of Going Off The Grid is the uniqueness of the book. Sure there are a few books on living off the grid however some of these are not best for the everyday man or woman because they are full of too much information that is not useful, full of complicated language that many won’t understand and lastly they are usually mammoth-sized books whereas Going Off The Grid is roughly 160 pages of pure usefulness and information! On top of this, it is written by somebody who has a background in fitness and military intelligence, so Collins is well equipped to help you, and he lives off the grid successfully so I know who I would want advice from!

Gary Collins truly has written an expert guide that is easy to read, full of useful and practical knowledge and full of sound advice that will help readers in many ways. That is why I, of course, have to award Going Off The Grid five stars, it would be silly for me not to!
