his words drip down her thoughts like holy water;
the butterflies in the witch’s stomach dissolve
like the last flickering flame from a match does.
her ribcage tightens as if almost imprisoned –
the aching in her chest is unbearable this time.
be patient, she is almost human again.
Get Well Soon is a poetry book I was desperate to read ever since discovering it. I love poetry but only if the poems that are written are poignant, moving and will provoke my thoughts about life and myself and Get Well Soon holds many poems that do just this. I love poetry, but sadly these days poems do not read as nicely as some classics, but I found with Get Well Soon that they did because the words flowed beautifully from start to finish and transfixed me and compelled me from beginning to end and so I am already going to recommend this gem of a book! However, if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more about this gem!
Get Well Soon is a collection of poems about a topic I do not want to spoil but the topics featured are moving, and poignant ones and will definitely challenge your thoughts. The poems are mostly short and quick poems but just because they are short does not mean they have little meaning and poignancy, in fact, they are incredibly profound and will definitely stay in readers memories for a long time, and that is just one quality I love about the incredible Get Well Soon.
There are many poems in Get Well Soon which I loved however it is hard to write which one because they are not named and can’t be easily categorized but I have many favorites. The book is 88 pages long so the reader will get to read a host of different poems and I admit book lovers that they really do pack a punch and although a lot of them are emotional, they should still be read because it would be near impossible for somebody to not fall in love with the poems written in Get Well Soon.
The poems laced throughout Get Well Soon are so brilliant and unique that I have not been able to stop thinking about them. As soon as I would finish one I would end up re-reading it because I wanted to immerse myself in it again and understanding the true meaning. I love immersing myself in a poem and reading it from different perspectives and the wonderful author Matthew Chau challenges his readers to do this.
Matthew Chau is a newly discovered poet of mine, but I wish I had discovered his work sooner because never before have I been so transfixed by poems. I have read a lot of poems in my time, especially since a young age but never have I ever been so provoked by the ones in Get Well Soon, emotionally and mentally. Chau does this with his mesmerizing prose and well developed and structured poems. The poems truly will keep readers turning the pages from beginning to end.
Overall Get Well Soon is a sensational, unique, and beautiful poetry book that should not be missed, I, of course, have to award this stellar book five stars! So please, have a read of Get Well Soon and get lost in the captivating words of Matthew Chau and be compelled to read from the very beginning to the very end… you will not regret it!
