Get After It, Parker Schaffel

Memoir & Biography, NonFiction, Self-Help & Motivational

Sometimes it takes eight years to commission in the military. Other times it takes six years to admit you were wrong. And then it might take nine years to find your fit at the CIA. These are the definitive stories of the author’s life, and these are the types of stories found in this book. The accounts, which span the globe from Baghdad to Afghanistan and from the headquarters of the CIA to the cockpit of an F-16, tell seven inspiring and motivational stories to give readers the drive to keep going in the toughest of times—what the author calls “getting after it.” Some stories might make you cry, while others may leave you wondering “Did that really happen?” Each tale contains multiple, concrete, and applicable lessons, enabling the reader to put their newly found inspiration to practical and applicable use in their own lives.

Get After It is a noteworthy memoir that I have discovered that is guaranteed to take its readers on a moving and memorable journey across the world. The reader along the way will learn many life lessons from the author, Parker Schaffel thanks to his many notable experiences which in turn will help as well as inspire readers from all over the world. Parker Schaffel’s story is incredible, and unlike anything, I have read before. I have read a lot of memoirs because they are fantastic books in which a reader can learn as well as be inspired, and I can happily write that amongst the crowded genre, Get After It stands out for me. Get After It stands out for me for many reasons, with the main one being the author’s captivating story which is laced with poignancy as well as inspiration. It takes a lot for me to be enchanted by a memoir; however, Parker Schaffel succeeded in doing just this thanks to his compelling narration. If you are a reader who adores memoirs as well as stories laced with inspiration and poignancy, then already I would recommend Get After It. However! If you need more convincing, then continue to read to learn more about this stellar book that should not be missed.

As I briefly mentioned, I adore memoirs, and this is because they give the reader insight into a person’s fascinating life. In particular, I love memoirs with poignant and travel themes; memoirs with travel themes are the best in my opinion as these stories can whisk the reader away on a memorable journey. If the author of such book is brilliantly descriptive, it will make the trip even more incredible for the reader as they will feel as if they are right there, beside the author, experiencing the same notable events that the author in question did.

Get After It is written by Parker Schaffel and is just this type of memoir; it is an incredibly powerful memoir that whisks the reader away to many places that will leave a lasting impression on any reader. The reader, thanks to the author’s impeccable descriptions will feel as if they are right there and this was a remarkable feeling. Although book lovers, the places featured in Get After It are not all pleasant as some of Parker’s stories are hard-hitting and will undoubtedly provoke readers in many ways.

Get After It is a memoir I love, and in the book, Parker Schaffel will share seven stories taken from seven moments of his life. During these pivotal moments in his life, he learned a great deal and so he shares his stories with his readers so that readers can apply the life lessons learned by Parker, to their own life. There are seven stories shared by Parker; however, I adored two of them the most. One of them is about Parker’s journey to Afghanistan on behalf of the CIA, and it is here that he ‘damaged friendships’ and ‘severed partnerships.’ I believe that this story will touch many readers especially those who are struggling with their working environment, so I admire Parker for sharing it with his readers as it is a story readers can apply to their own life.

The other story I adored was a story where he describes how difficult it was to learn Arabic. Learning any language is hard and so to read a story about somebody learning, despite the odds being against them, is incredibly inspirational to me and will motivate any reader to accomplish what they want to in life.

Parker Schaffel is an incredible man whom I admire so much, there is much I admire about Parker, but one of the core attributes I admire about him is the fact that he has told his story. Literature is an art form, and it is there for stories to be discussed and shared, and stories like Parker’s should definitely be shared thanks to the inspiring nature of it. Parker flawlessly narrates his story in a brazen, honest and inspiring way, the journey is tough at times, especially when the reader reads of Parker’s hard experiences but mostly the story is motivating because it shows us, readers, that anything can happen as long as you have the will and determination.

The profoundness in Get After It is sensational and many readers will feel a host of different emotions while reading this book. Parker effortlessly inspires thoughts and feelings in his readers as well as compel them to read from beginning to end. I found myself reading Get After It at an alarming rate because it was captivating as well as interesting; his incredible literature will have you turning the pages frantically, and I adored how he was able to do this.

As Get After It is a remarkable, memorable and compelling piece of nonfiction I am going to award this book five stars!
