From The Sky, J.E. Nicassio

Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Space Opera, Teen & Young Adult

When high school junior, Samantha Hunter, and her father move to New Mexico, it’s a chance to leave tragedy behind and start over. However, the arrival of a dark-haired stranger changes everything. Lucien introduces Sam to the prospect of enjoying life again, and to the hidden world of aliens. But crazier than that, Lucien doesn’t feel entirely like a stranger. Redemption and romance follow Sam in her new life as she works to understand the alien-human romance she’s developing—a romance that feels beyond her control. There’s something bigger happening around her, and to her, too, and this is just the beginning….

Wow, From The Sky … where do I begin? Why don’t I start my review by writing that From The Sky is a thrilling and poignant novel that is not only worthy of being read by all readers but also a novel that needs to be a movie. When I read the description of From The Sky I was hooked, after all, I love science fiction novels and love even more when they feature aliens and have a twist, so I was hooked and ready to go. However, when I started to read From The Sky, I was shocked by just how good the literature and the story was and so I raced through this novel desperate to find out what would happen to the protagonists I had grown to love. Now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what From The Sky did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read it! That is when you know book lovers that you have come across an incredible book when you are thinking of it when you have a million things to do. That is why I am already going to recommend From The Sky to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but From The Sky is a novel not to be missed.

From The Sky is an incredible tale that weaves many themes that are not commonly weaved together. For example, From The Sky is primarily a science fiction tale that features aliens but it is also a deeply moving and poignant story that could make it seem as if it is a coming of age book. As well as this a romance features heavily and so From The Sky is a unique book with multiple themes and although it seems as if these themes would not work well together, they do and this is all thanks to the incredible author, J.E. Nicassio. Nicassio has written an extraordinary tale and in this tale, the reader will be introduced to Samantha Hunter, a high school junior who tries to start afresh in New Mexico with her father. Sam has experienced great tragedy in her life even though she is so young and this is because one day, while driving with her twin brother Finn in the passenger seat, she crashes and although somebody saves Sam, a mysterious man, Finn is killed instantly. Not long after this tragic event Sam’s mother also dies for reasons I will not spoil and this forces Sam’s father who is an archaeologist, to move to New Mexico in pursuit of a new job and Sam goes too, and the plan is to start again.

Not long after arriving in New Mexico, Sam meets a mysterious man called Lucien and Lucien is kind and shows her what there is to live for. In fact, he shows her more than what you would expect because he takes her on a journey through the ‘hidden world of Aliens.’ Sam, while trying to navigate her grief and feelings towards Lucien, will learn all about Aliens and more about the mysterious Lucien. What follows is a charming, thrilling and unforgettable science fiction tale that should not be missed!

From The Sky for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. From The Sky was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, J.E. Nicasso who hooked me with her unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a science fiction novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a science fiction story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! From The Sky does have some action-packed moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!

J.E. Nicassio is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp her reader’s attention from the first page. Nicassio instead of writing long, drawn-out build-ups which are commonly found in science fiction novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with Nicassio, the reader will not encounter this issue because Nicassio instantly develops her characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

Overall From The Sky is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so, I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars!
