Fifty Curious Questions: Pabulum for the Enquiring Mind, Martin Fone

Education & Teaching, Guidebook and Textbook, NonFiction

The pace of life is such that we rarely have the luxury to stop and think. We take so much on trust or assume that we know why something happens or the way things work. It is only when we stop and think that nagging doubts or questions creep into our subconscious? For those of us blessed (or is it cursed?) with an enquiring mind, once the seed of a question has been planted, we need to find the answer.

The purpose of this book is to shed light on some of those nagging and irritating questions. There is no overarching design behind the fifty questions. They are just some of the topics that have puzzled me, a self-confessed ignoramus on all matters scientific, over the years; and I have now had the time to find the answers. Fortunately, greater brains than mine have grappled with some of the issues and carried out bizarre experiments or made quantum leaps of logic to push out further the frontiers of human knowledge. This book celebrates this quest and thirst for knowledge.

For somebody who is obsessed with learning and acquiring knowledge from all aspects of life, Fifty Curious Questions: Pabulum for the Enquiring Mind is a book that I was destined to love. Ever since I have been young I have been curious, curious about everything and anything and would always find myself googling questions and researching my thoughts. Fifty Curious Questions is the book perfect for readers like me who are obsessed with knowledge and are curious by nature as Fifty Curious Questions will fulfill fifty nagging questions in the most fun and entertaining of ways.

Fifty Curious Questions is a collection of questions with corresponding answers written by the fantastic Martin Fone. Martin throughout his book has listed questions that many readers will have found themselves thinking about; questions such as ‘Why do knuckles crack?’ ‘Is there a limit to how long your hair will grow’, ‘How much does a soul weigh?’ and ‘Is the shuffle feature really random?’. These are just four questions which are laced throughout this genius book and its answers are brilliant! I mentioned these four questions in particular as they were my favorite, at one point in my life I have answered myself these questions so to read the answers which are written in a fun, humorous and fascinating way is brilliant and ensured that I would love this book forever.

The writing throughout Fifty Curious Questions is stellar and in no way boring and this is thanks to the brilliant author, Martin Fone. Martin Fone is a genius for writing such a book because he is doing the impossible… satisfying curious minds! I have found over the years that no matter how much I google an answer, I never get a straight one but within Martin’s book, this is all the reader gets and this is thanks to his wealth of knowledge and research into such fascinating questions.

Martin Fone is not only incredibly for his knowledge but also his writing. Fifty Curious Questions may be a piece of nonfiction but it is wildly entertaining as well as hilarious. Martin manages to weave engrossing literature with humor in the most perfect of ways. As Fifty Curious Questions is a dazzling gem and a rare book to come across today I have no choice but to award this book five stars! So if you are a reader looking to fulfill your curiosity and intrigue then this book is for you!

Radio interview with Martin Fone about his book, Fifty Curious Questions

Thank you so much for your review. I am glad you liked it and that the humour crossed the Atlantic unscathed. The book was designed to be a bit like a tray of canapes. You can dip in on a selective basis or can be devoured in one go. Alas the book doesn’t come with wine.
