Set in Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, a modern-day classic pits brothers Otto and Ivan Blackmoor against each other in a tale of business, love, jealousy, and revenge. When family matters of loyalty and betrayal escalate, secretive plots are exposed and misunderstandings run rampant until a vigilante-style justice is finally served.

A Divided Duty is a stunning piece of literature that enthralled, entertained and enchanted me from the very first page! Everything about this contemporary piece of fiction was exciting; the characters, as well as the beautiful setting of Philadephia and incredible literature courtesy of the wonderful Carol White, made me fall madly in love with this book. A Divided Duty is a piece of fiction that will captivate readers from all genres thanks to the many themes that are interwoven between the pages. This book can only be described as a read that should not be missed! If you are looking to read a book that will grasp your attention from the first page and hold it throughout then already I would implore you lovely readers to read this book because it is utterly brilliant!

A Divided Duty is a tale of greed, revenge, and treachery; it is a dramatic piece of literature that follows two deceiving brothers and their not so lovely wives. As the reader is taken along on a journey of betrayal, the plot unravels to reveal some terrifying secrets that will captivate the reader. It is clear to the reader early on that this will be a dramatic read because tension is rife; this feeling is prevalent from beginning to end, this strain almost creates an atmosphere of anxiousness but the right kind! Let me explain. I felt a tad anxious as I read this book because I had no idea where the plot was going or what was going to happen. Novels that have a theme of rivalry are meant to evoke this in readers, so this is a plus for me!

Contemporary fiction mixed with themes of satire and betrayal are my favorite kind of book to read. A Divided Duty encompasses everything I love about literature; it has plenty of family drama, twists and turns galore, brilliant, unconventional characters and even lust! The excellent author of this novel, Carol White effortlessly takes the reader on a thrilling journey; White’s words managed to keep me intrigued as well as entertained as I raced through this book. It is the kind of book that is impossible to put down, and when I had to I longed for it! I wanted to be reunited with the story I had grown to love and the characters I had become invested in – it may be a slightly mad world but it is still a masterfully genius one!

One aspect I enjoyed about this novel was White’s ability to shock and surprise me continuously, her twists and turns will undoubtedly have the reader entertained from beginning to end, these twists of hers would sometimes shock me so much that I had to reread the chapter! The ending of A Divided Duty alone is a massive shock in itself because it came out of nowhere, I did not even have an inkling of what was going to happen. White’s ability to do this is a sign of a genuine literary talent, and so she will always have a reader in me now.

White is talented and a well-accomplished author who has written an unforgettable novel that features heavily on its characters and themes. White’s characters are not likable, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. I love reading the occasional book where you loathe the characters; it is a welcome change if anything as it keeps you on edge! Her characters are greedy as well as selfish, and you can’t help but despise them, but even though you will, you will still be interested in them and will even find the occasional attribute you like. I always try and find a silver lining in a character and a story and my silver lining for the protagonists of the novel are that they are ambitious! Ambition is a quality I love so really, they are not too bad.
The dialogue between the novels main characters was terrifyingly magnificent, the conversation between them flows brilliantly and never once does it become stagnant. It interweaves perfectly with the plot and compliments the story flawlessly.

Overall Carol White has written a dazzling, enthralling novel that will captivate any reader from beginning to end and so, I would implore all of you lovely readers to read it! It has everything you would want in a read, it has unique characters, a steady, streamlined plot, twists and turns galore and all of this is expertly combined with incredible literature; what more could you want?! This delightful read gets Five Stars from me!
