Deception, Andrew Bryson

Action & Adventure, Espionage & Conspiracy, Mystery & Suspense, Politics, Thriller & Psychological Thriller

Nothing is as it seems. The assassination of the brother of US President Thomas Webb sparks a seemingly unrelated chain of events. These include the kidnapping of Maya Borovkova and the poisoning of Russian general, Alexei Lukyanov.

Maya’s boyfriend, Sean Peters, embarks on a dangerous mission to save her and is drawn into a world of lies and deceit. He uncovers a plot to plunge Russia and Ukraine into a needless war. As he closes in on Maya, Sean realizes that no one is who they appear to be, including Maya.

Deception is a chilling, exhilarating read that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Deception is addictive as well as enthralling, it engrossed me just from the description alone and when I did indeed start to read this story it thrilled me! It has astonishing characters, riveting literature, and a spine-tingling good plot. Already I would implore you lovely readers to read this book, but if you need more convincing, then please read the rest of my review to read more about this brilliant book!

Deception is a compelling novel which is full of nonstop twists and turns. The reader will learn in Deception that the brother of the US President has been assassinated and this murder has sparked a chain of events, one that affects the protagonist of the book, Sean Peters. For some reason Sean’s girlfriend Maya Borovkova is kidnapped, and so he must embark on a dangerous mission to save her. However as he does just this, he will be pulled into a ‘world of lies and deceit’ in which he will discover shocking truths about Maya as well as a potential war and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible Deception!

The plot of Deception is thrilling and incredibly clever. I am beyond impressed by Andrew Bryson’s raw talent and how he managed to include so much depth into his novel flawlessly; no stone was left unturned, not even once. The pacing of his story too was immaculate, and so I applaud him for his incredible talent. The story is unlike anything I have read or heard of before. It is a unique thriller book that stands out amongst the crowd. This is because the story is wonderfully written and the plot perfectly executed. It is relentless, and that is how thriller books should be! I adore these kinds of books where they push the boundaries; it is daring, bold and frankly brilliant!  I always measure my likeness of a book on whether I find myself looking at the page number; if I do in fact do this, I know that the novel is taking its toll. However with Deception I never once found myself referring to the page number, and that is a sure sign that this book is a compelling piece of work that draws the reader in and captivates them to read it quickly!

Andrew Bryson can only be described as a talented wordsmith; I adored his writing which felt as if it was spiked with adrenaline and I adored the multi-layers of this story. This thriller was packed full of great and informative depth which is rare for this genre in my opinion. Bryson’s characters, especially the protagonist of the novel, Sean Peters, was simply electric. His narrative jumped off the page and made me want to read until I could not any more. He was such a great protagonist that he compelled me to read and propelled the novel forward.

To summarise my thoughts on the sensational novel that is Deception; I would say if you are a reader who is looking for a brilliant, action-packed book with a fast-paced, intriguing plot and flawlessly executed characters then this excellent book is for you! Deception gets five stars from me book lovers!
