The Art of Trapeze, Molly McCord

NonFiction, Self-Help & Motivational

On a random Thursday morning, with nothing to lose and only a dream to gain, Molly McCord decides to move to Paris, France to follow the courageous call of her heart. She arrives in a city she has never visited before and where she knows no one, yet she trusts her ability to figure it out because her adventurous life has prepared her for this biggest of leaps. She carries the wisdom of Solitude, Strength, Style, Flexibility, Heart, Endurance, and Grace in her non-matching luggage collection.

Molly’s soul-riveting experiences unfold in surprising ways as she discovers the joys and realities of life as a foreigner in France, falls in love with a sexy Turkish man, moves her cats across the Atlantic, enjoys the rare opportunity of working for a U.S. Ambassador, and creates the life of her dreams in less than two years.

Yet when unexpected developments require her to surrender once again, a higher consciousness catches her with a deeper spiritual awakening.

The Art of Trapeze is a moving, enjoyable, lovely memoir that had everything I love and more. I adored reading a memoir from a young woman’s perspective, all the biographies I have ever read have been from older people so I feel that this is special and Molly McCord, the author of this beautiful book certainly stands out for this. I loved how this memoir included everything I love; it has travel, adorable animals, love, and self-discovery. These are all things I adore to read about, so it is no surprise that I am madly in love with this book!

Molly McCord is an adorable, inspiring woman who has written a story of her journey from the United States of America to lush Paris. While in Paris, McCord takes the reader on a journey as she experiences culture clashes (I know how brutal these can be, so I feel you Molly!), challenging scenarios and so much more. Her journey is terrific to be a part of, and I loved every moment of it.

The first part of this memoir takes the reader through the beautiful streets of Pais as McCord tries a brand new cuisine – which I must add, she describes perfectly – as well as how she explored and how she fell in love with a Turkish man all while she is starting her internship at the US embassy.

I adored McCord feminine approach of this book; I am a typical woman, I love pretty things, and I love pink. My point is that McCord has done a great job at capturing the essence of being a woman, she perfectly describes furnishing apartments, what to wear in Paris and so much more. This book could almost be titled ‘The Perfect Companion for a woman in Paris!’ , it is exceptional, and I do wonder whether McCord will write another book, delving more into the female aspects of living/working abroad!

Although this novel is a memoir about McCord’s journey, it is also a story of a spiritual awakening. McCord is honest in her writing in saying that she has had a lot of ups and downs in her life and she brazenly discusses this. This is apart of her spiritual journey, and it is beautiful to read.

McCord is a literary talent; her book is expertly written and full of moving, poignant, beautiful moments… even funny ones! That will keep you hooked and entertained until the very end. That is why I would say, if you are looking for a memoir that is fun, moving as well as excellently written then read this grand adventure because it makes for a perfect read! This beautiful book gets Five Stars from me!
