On her 49th birthday, Anna Fergusson, Boston neuroscientist and dedicated introvert, arrives at an unwanted crossroads when the funding for her research lab is cut. With her confidence shattered and her future uncertain, on impulse she rents a cabin for a year on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. However Turtle Island, alive with sea birds and nesting Green turtles, is not the retreat she expected. Here she finds love—for the eccentric islanders who become her family; for Tom, the laid-back turtle whisperer; and for the turtles whose ancient mothering instincts move her to tears. But Anna finds that even on her idyllic drop in the ocean there is pain, and as the months fly past her dream for a new life is threatened by a darkness that challenges everything she has come to believe about the power of love.
A Drop in the Ocean is an incredible book that is unlike anything I have read before. A Drop in the Ocean was a delight to read and an incredibly memorable one that I will struggle to forget for a long time thanks to the compelling story and extraordinary characters. The story is heart-wrenching at times while at other times it is inspiring as well as eye-opening and throughout it, you will undoubtedly feel a host of different emotions that will make you think about your own life. This is thanks to the poignant journey of one woman as well as the impeccably well-developed story courtesy of the excellent author Jenni Ogden who transfixes her readers from start to finish.
Jenni Ogden is a remarkable author and a genius; she is a genius because she has expertly weaved numerous themes throughout her book A Drop in the Ocean, in a flawless way in which all subjects blend perfectly together. A Drop in the Ocean is an incredible book that has shocked and amazed me; the gripping nature of this novel combined with themes of finding yourself make A Drop in the Ocean not only a stellar story but also a poignant one which should be read by everybody. If you do choose to read this book, then you will not be disappointed because it is an exciting, compelling and entertaining book that should not be missed!
A Drop in the Ocean will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the novel, Anna Fergusson who on her 49th birthday learns that her life is about to change drastically. Anna is a neuroscientist, an incredibly intelligent one who has been doing great work but she discovers on her birthday that she will receive no more funding for her work and so she is distraught. Anna is not sure what to do with her life and does not know how she can continue her work so she decides to live in Australia, close to the Great Barrier Reef for one year so she can get her thoughts together and think of a plan.
Anna thought that her trip to Austalia would be easy, but she will soon find that it has more in store for her. While in Australia Anna will fall in love with the place, the people (some more than others) and even the beautiful animals. However, although the book sounds as if nothing drastic will happen, it does book lovers, and from this point onwards the reader will be taken on a roller coaster ride one full of many unpredictable twists and turns and shocking but thrilling moments.
The story of A Drop in the Ocean is quite simply sensational as well as heartbreaking. A Drop in the Ocean is a book that deals with many poignant themes as well as uplifting themes and all of these topics are weaved perfectly together, and the outcome is a beautiful piece of literature that will stay prominent in readers minds for many weeks upon completion. To write I am astounded by A Drop in the Ocean is an understatement, this captivating book captured me and held me prisoner until the very end. Its brilliantly clever, imaginative, original story is one that enthralled me from beginning to end, and this is thanks to the incredible author Jenni Ogden who has managed to flawlessly write an astonishing novel that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Most contemporary fiction novels these days, in my opinion, are lackluster and predictable and so my faith in this genre has dwindled over the years. A Drop in the Ocean, however, has restored my faith in contemporary fiction as this one is incredible! The story, combined with Ogden’s flawless writing which feels as if it is spiked with adrenaline make A Drop in the Ocean a stellar read and one that should not be missed.
Ogden’s prose engrossed me very quickly thanks to the poignant themes she explores as well as the gripping narrative of Anna but what also gripped me was her sensitivity to subjects explored. The sensitivity and passion in Ogden’s words were admirable and kept me turning the pages quickly as I desperately wanted to read more of her exceptional prose.
